From the President: Be a Volunteer

Professional organizations such as STC function best when they have a full slate of volunteers to support chapter activities. As acting president, one of my duties is to help recruit volunteers for the Administrative Council of the Snake River Chapter. So I checked a couple of Web sites for a good quote to inspire members to volunteer. Of course there are hundreds, but here's a Greek proverb that I think says it all:

"A civilization flourishes when people plant trees under whose shade they will never sit."

I like this quote because it reminds me of the volunteers who founded our chapter, recruited its first members, developed its first programs, and performed numerous other tasks to ensure that the chapter would continue growing in future years. These are the volunteers whose vision and hard work gave us the flourishing chapter we have today-a chapter that's nearly 100 members strong, that is financially stable, that has an outstanding newsletter and Web site, and that offers diverse, informative programs from mind mapping to publishing magazine articles.

Please consider volunteering for your chapter during the 2005-2006 STC year. The following elected or appointed positions are open. Next to the position name is the job description from the chapter bylaws. If you have an interest in any of these positions or you would like to volunteer in another way, please contact me at 895-0138 or at sshamilton@micron.com.
