It’s the Volunteer Season . . .

The month of November marks the beginning of the holiday season and brings a surge of weight gain as well as goodwill toward our peers. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge—the Snake River Chapter needs volunteers!

We would like to extend an invitation to our chapter members to volunteer and help out with various offices and activities in the chapter. Here are a few of the volunteer opportunities you have as a Snake River Chapter member:or have not received your publications in the mail (if you selected that membership option), please go to the STC International website and make sure that your contact information is correct. If you hear another STC member mention that he or she has not received any e-mails lately, please suggest to them that they also check their information on the STC website.

  • Our Programs VP (programs@stc-src.org), Russell Willerton, needs volunteers to assist him with planning the programs and setting up the meetings. This could involve calling possible speakers, getting in touch with people at event locations, planning refreshments, or planning and setting up technical equipment for an event.
  • Our Membership VP (membership@stc-src.org), Teresa Sherman, would like volunteers to help her with membership recruitment. Get in touch with her to help greet current and potential members at events or track down the updated email addresses of members whose addresses no longer work.
  • Our Treasurer (treasurer@stc-src.org), Kathy Hinds, would like volunteers to help her maintain and manage our finances. This could involve collecting money from members at events, helping maintain bank accounts, or preparing reports for the international office.
  • Our Newsletter Editor (newsletter@stc-src.org), Adrienne Martin, could use volunteers to help her track down newsletter articles, write newsletter articles, or just follow up with authors who are submitting articles. If you have anything to say about certain aspects of the job or have an article you found particularly pertinent to technical communication, get in touch with her to share it with the rest of us.

Please send an email to any of these officers to learn more about specific volunteer opportunities and whether those opportunities are something that you would be interested in. The amount of time volunteering could be from 30 minutes to a few hours a month, depending on the project.

If you want to volunteer to do something that we do not have a position for, please let us know so that we can consider it. The more involvement we can muster, the more we’ll get done and the more we’ll have to offer you as chapter members!

Remember, asking about volunteering does not mean that you are committing to anything. We appreciate all inquiries.
